01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

While unbaked raw yatsuhashi confection Otabe is a familiar staple of Kyoto souvenir shopping, visiting the brand's flagship location reveals a much broader selection than what is found at train station kiosks. Alongside classic cinnamon and adzuki bean paste varieties, the counters feature seasonal flavors such as chestnut and sweet potato, as well as Kotabe—bite-sized portions in charming decorative boxes that make it easy to sample and assemble personal assortments. The showcases also carry house specialties that venture beyond traditional yatsuhashi, including crepe monaka, cinnamon mochi rolls, fresh wagashi, and Western-style pastries, making it just as appealing for an everyday treat as it is for gift hunting.

Factory views and hands-on workshops

Along with the retail shop on the 1 floor, the 2 floor features a factory viewing area where visitors can watch the production process through observation windows. A hands-on sweet-making workshop is also offered, allowing participants to wrap bean paste in freshly prepared dough while learning how the treats are crafted. The grounds include free parking, making it convenient to combine with a stop at the adjacent baumkuchen shop.

Accessibility and visitor amenities

The facility is well equipped for guests of all ages, with wheelchair-accessible entrances, restrooms, and dedicated parking bays. Cashless payment options are widely accepted, including major credit cards, transit IC cards, and QR-code services such as PayPay. It makes an easy, practical stop on a driving itinerary through Kyoto to pick up regional confections and take in a behind-the-scenes look at their making.
